The screening will occur in the Providence Radiology department on the first floor of the hospital..
The $50, comprehensive assessment will include:
• Ankle brachial index (ABI) for peripheral vascular disease* or AAA/Carotid (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm/Carotid) Screening*
• Blood pressure
• BodyMass Index (BMI)
*At the time of registration callers will be screened to receive either a ABI or AAA/Carotid screening. Pre-registration is required and there is a limited availability of appointments for ABI and for AAA/Carotid . In addition, all participants will receive gift card for a reduced rate CardioScan provided at Providence Medical Imaging (KCIC) location.
These tests will give patients a good baseline for understanding their heart and vascular health and may identify certain types of heart disease. “Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in the United States,” says Maria Javaid, M.D., F.A.C.C., cardiologist. “Having these screenings will give patients an opportunity to assess their heart and vascular health in ways they may not have thought they needed and provide them with potentially life-improving information.”
Technicians, as well as Dr. Javaid will be on site to administer the tests. Patients will also receive materials to more fully educate them on risks, symptoms and treatment for heart disease.
The physicians who care for Providence and Saint John patients include board-certified cardiologists Maria Javaid, M.D., Donald McSweyn, M.D., Venkat R. Pasnoori, M.D, and Julian Nunez, M.D. The doctors see patients in the Providence and Saint John Emergency Services departments, as well as those on the hospital’s medical/surgical and intensive care units. They also can expedite treatment for patients experiencing a life-threatening type of heart attack called a STEMI, getting them to the closest Accredited Chest Pain Center (which is Providence) for immediate care.
