Providence Medical Center, in connection with the Heart of America Metro
Fire Chiefs Council, is trying to keep the Wyandotte County community
HEARTSafe. HEARTSafe is a public health initiative focused on improving
the chances of survival for those who experience sudden, out-of-hospital
cardiac arrest or heart attack.
One of the ways the hospital is participating in the initiative is with
educational events that teach hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR). These events have been held at Sporting Park and the Kansas Speedway.
The initiative also educates residents about the warning signs and symptoms
of a heart attack, how to reduce the risk for heart attack, how to use
an automated external debrillator (AED), and when to call 911.
